Sound Economic Development: Creating a Rising Economic Tide for the N.C. Coast

Investments in coastal habitat preservation, restoration and shellfish aquaculture can help increase and protect the long-term economic prosperity of North Carolina’s coastal communities. This will be the topic of a professional, two-day summit organized by the North Carolina Coastal Federation March 22 and 23 in Raleigh, N.C.

Shellfish Aquaculture Meeting to be Held to Discuss USDA Farm Service Agency Programs

North Carolina Sea Grant, in cooperation with Carteret Community College and the North Carolina Shellfish Growers Association, is sponsoring a Shellfish Producer Meeting that will be held at 6 PM on Tuesday, August 25 in Room 305 of the CMAST building in Morehead City. The meeting will provide an overview of USDA Farm Service Agency Programs available to shellfish producers including farm loans, the Noninsured Disaster Assistance Program (NAP), and the Rural Energy for America Program (REAP). The meeting will include instructions for completing applications for the NAP program that are due September 1. The meeting will also include updates on research activities and legislation affecting the shellfish industry.

NC Shellfish Growers Assoc Membership Update

The NCADC will be held Feb 27-28 in New Bern. Please plan to attend if you can. We’ll hold the NCSGA annual meeting on Saturday. There’s quite a few things going on with our industry and I personally believe we’re getting ready to actually see some positive things coming from the State level. – Jay Styron

About the Conference

This conference is designed to bring together the general public, current and prospective fish farmers, scientists, and personnel from regulatory agencies to share information and ideas about the development of aquaculture in North Carolina. Attendees will learn about several topics relevant to aquaculture species in North Carolina, and find out about the latest aquaculture equipment and products by browsing the ongoing Trade Show. Our famous Aquafoods Festival is an ‘all you care to eat…’ gathering to close out Friday’s activities, and targeted workshops will wrap up the conference on Saturday morning.
